Home on leave from Auschwitz for the holidays, a young camp guard, Diedrich, plans on spending his time with the love of his life, Annemarie. However, things abruptly change when he gets an invitation to the Fleischmann house in Munich and he finds himself caring for a young Jewish girl hiding from the Gestapo. Now, disguising her as his daughter, Diedrich must learn to set aside his differences and keep the girl safe and happy over the holidays. But, little does he know the impact this girl will have on him, not only for the holidays, but for his heart.

It's hard for me to review this, because the story is, for the most part, adorable, but everything else kind of...lacks. If you're looking for a pleasure read and don't want to pay attention to writing quality, then this is a fine book to read. It's short, easy, cute, and meaningful. Of course, despite the oddly sexual kissing scenes that don't fit the mood of the story, and Heinrich sort of just being there for no other reason than to be a creepy villain. If those things don't bother you and if mediocre writing doesn't bother you, this book is just fine.

Redeeming Grace Erin Sinnott 9781105287688 Books Reviews

its been a long time since a book has really gotten to me and made me laugh, made me cry, made me thing, this is the novel, Redeeming Grace is a wonderful Christmas story , full of hope, love, and the power of opening ones heart, this is a must read, everyone who can read english should read this amazing work!
Sinnott uses beautiful imagery and language to tell this touching holiday tale. The reader is quickly drawn in at the beginning and their attention is held through the whole story; it's hard to put the book down once you start. The characters are compelling and truthful, vividly representing the time period and the mixed feelings of Germany (especially the soldiers who were forced into their duties). Overall, it's a story of redemption, and how love can come in many forms and in even the most unexpected ways. Definitely something to have on the shelves to share during the holidays.
Redeeming Grace is a true holiday story. The themes of love and redemption are strong throughout and touch the reader's heart. I couldn't put the book down when I started reading it, the flow of the story and the language are very well done. Accompanied with the story are also lovely images drawn by the story's illustrator. They add to the story and are beautiful. One of the most touching things about the story is on the subject of love. There are so many different forms of it in the novella that it warms your heart in so many ways. The characters are all very well developed and easy to connect to in many ways from the little striped field mouse Blitzen to loving little Eva and even to the camp guard Diedrich, they all find a place in the reader's heart in the end. Which, overall, I think is a success, since the book teaches just to open up to people like and unlike ourselves, and give them a chance for our love.
